The Runge R2 has been 4 years in the making for Christopher Runge. In his Alexandria, MN-based workshop, he’s spent thousands upon thousands of hours crafting this superleicht (superlight) sportscar. Featuring a tube frame chassis and polished aluminum bodywork, the 1700-lb coupe features a 3.6L flat-6 engine borrowed from a 993-generation Porsche 911. With a few enhancements, the R2 pushes roughly 300 hp to the ground, making it every bit as fast as it looks. It was an honor to visit Christopher’s shop and to be the first person to photograph what is sure to be his crowning achievement.
